Interested in Donating a Horse?
Majestic Hills Ranch works with many horses and lots of different breeds. We often need to add new horses to our program, and we always enjoy meeting potential candidates as long as they meet our criteria. Please see our guidelines below then fill out the donation evaluation/application form and fax or email it back to Majestic Hills Ranch. After receiving and reviewing your information, we will contact you to discuss your horse in more detail. Thank you for thinking of our program as a future home for your horse!
Guidelines for Program Horses:
Ideal age range:
9 years - 17 years |
While we may make exceptions to this range, it will be on an individual review of the horse.
|
Ideal Height:
13.2 - 16 hands |
We are in need of many different sizes with our programs and riders. We have young children, where having a pony would be beneficial. We also have military veterans and adults that will need to have a more substantial horse.
|
Ideal Training:
Completely trained, comfortable in arena and on trail rides. |
We CANNOT accept green broke horses. Our horses are used both in arenas and on trail rides, so they must be comfortable in either setting. We ask our horses to tolerate sidewalkers walking close to them at a walk and a trot, lots of movement on their back from riders, and working with a leader. We will do additional training for all of our horses to accept toys, different mounting and dismounting techniques, and following a leaders' commands.
|
Health:
|
All of our horses must be sound at a walk, trot, and canter (lope). We need them to be healthy and happy without excessive corrective shoeing, supplements, or medications. We also need them to be in relatively good condition and with a positive work ethic. They cannot have bad stable vices (no cribbing, wind sucking, pacing, kicking, or pica) and be use to living in a mixed herd of geldings and mares without causing problems.
|
Temperament:
|
We are looking for calm horses that love people and attention. We want horses that are inquisitive and attentive to their riders, but that are forgiving of beginners. They also must not mind having a leader and working with sidewalkers around them while in the arena and out on trail.
|
Health (vaccinations):
|
All horses need to have a negative Coggins and be up to date on all vaccinations:
Influenza / Rhino / Tetanus / West Nile / East & West Sleeping Sickness / Strangles. |
- We also take all donated horses on a 60 to 90 day trial period in which we will work on additional training. We will be exposing the horses to toys, adaptive equipment, different mounting / dismounting techniques, and leading in classes with mock riders and sidewalkers to test the horse for suitability. During this trial period, the horse will be stabled at our facility and worked with by our staff and volunteers, but Majestic Hills Ranch may or may not accept financial responsibility for medical bills, farrier, or daily board of the animal - depending on case by case situations.
- If a horse is accepted into our program, we do offer to all owners "first right of refusal" for when it is time to retire the horse from the program, as long as they give the ranch updated contact information (new phone numbers / addresses / email addresses.)
We NO LONGER allow former owners to be able to request a horse back before the program decides that it is time for them to retire.
